Our terroir

Our region's geography

The plateau of Arethousa is located in the east of the Prefecture of Thessaloniki at an altitude that starts from 350 and reaches up to 500 meters. It is enclosed between the Kerdylia mountain range and Lake Volvi. The site owes its name to the goddess Arethusa, Nymph of the springs.

Geological information

The area belongs geotectonically to the Serbo-Macedonian plate. The age of the single crystal schist of Serbo-Macedonian is considered to be very old. In general, its rocks are considered the oldest in Greece. The parent soil material consists of mafic and ultramafic rocks.

Vineyard's location, soil and microclimate

Our vineyard is located on the slopes of the Kerdylia mountains between the villages of Limni and Skepasto at an altitude of 450 meters. The sandy, slightly sloping and well-drained soil keeps the vigour and production of the grapevines under control, while the cool air currents, coming down from the mountains during the night, protect the aromatic compounds of the grapes.
